Life is like a box of chocolates…or a surfboard.

Often times when we find things don’t go the way we want them to, we blame outside sources. “It’s their fault” “traffic was bad” “they didn’t help me” “the weather was bad” – but the truth of the matter is – you are 100% in control of your destiny. Compare it to surfing. You have to stand on the surfboard just right or you’ll topple over into the water. You’ve also gotta keep your eyes peeled for just the right wave to be forming; if you’re not paying attention, you’ll miss the perfect opportunity heading your way, only to see it go by when someone else makes that beautiful ride in. It’s not the ocean’s fault if you fall – you never hear a surfer blame the water – they didn’t catch the right wave, or didn’t plant their feet firmly on their board.

So next time you miss the right wave, or fall off your board, don’t blame the universe – take responsibility, figure out what you could have done differently, and get back up and try again.

I’ve never been surfing, but I can only imagine the feeling of getting it just right…

  1. actually you have to fall a thousand times – but it’s worth it. and you have to accept that there are greater powers which you can live with or fight. but fighting the ocean doesn’t make much sense. you have to get friends with it 🙂 but yeah, there are a thousand interpretations and if you found one that is good for you – thumbs up! I like this quote of colleague jaimal yogis most:
